EVENTS There are many events at the sanctuary throughout the year. Our staff are usually extremely busy taking care of the animals that live at the sanctuary, so visits are by appointment only. However, there are lots of weekends that are open to the public for volunteer workcamps, open house weekends, our annual winter holiday open house, and special donor visits.
Once a month, Milo hosts volunteer workcamps, which involves improving the sanctuary infrastructure. Past projects include assembling insulated dog houses, cat house renovations, painting, jump proofing pens, building dog runs, and much, much more. Part of the weekend is also spent socializing the animals: playing with the cats, walking dogs, playing fetch with the dogs, and passing out treats and toys to the animals. Volunteers may camp in the grounds of the Milo Sanctuary or stay in a hotel in the nearby town of Willits (10 miles away). Those that camp, may bring up to 2 dogs, if they are friendly towards other dogs. Volunteers must sign up in advance for these weekends, as limited space is available. Please contact our volunteer weekend coordinator for details or to register (amr@milofoundation.org). Volunteers may work both days or just one, however preference is given to those that can come for both days. The workcamp is Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 8-4. Meals are provided for all volunteers. Download the volunteer application and release here. A $25 per person donation is requested to cover meals during the weekend (lunch and dinner on saturday, breakfast and lunch on sunday). February 2nd-3rd:
Projects: jump proof fence, cat house renovations, cleanup Open House Weekends provide an opportunity to visit the sanctuary for individuals that wish to visit and meet the animals or who are interested in adopting one of the sanctuary animals. Staff and volunteers will be on site to give visitors tours of the sanctuary, facilitate introductions of sanctuary animals, and answer questions about the sanctuary and its animal residents. Please email the sanctuary (sanctuary@milofoundation.org) to register and receive directions to get to the sanctuary. People are welcome to come on either Saturday or Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. You are welcome to camp overnight on the sanctuary grounds (meals are not provided). Friendly dogs are welcome to join you. 2008 Open House Weekend Schedule May 10th and 11th: Join the Milo critters, along with Milo Board and staff, for hot apple cider, pumpkin pie, and other tasty treats for a fun day at the Milo Sanctuary. Let's celebrate the end of a wonderful year by sharing our love and company with Milo's residents. In the spirit of giving, please bring holiday gifts for our sanctuary animals (dog toys and treats, cat toys and treats, dog or cat canned wet food, dog and cat beds, or straw for our dog houses) and share the day with them. People can socialize the dogs and cats, walk dogs throughout the hundreds of acres of property, or just have fun, playing with the animals. Everyone is welcome. Friendly dogs are welcome as well. Donor VisitsVisits to the sanctuary can be arranged by appointment for donors interested in receiving personal tours, people interested in or currently sponsoring animals through our sponsorship program, and individuals interested in sponsoring a sanctuary improvement project (dog play area, green housing, senior cat house, senior dog house, volunteer housing are just some of the projects on our wish list. |
