VOLUNTEER

There are a number of ways to volunteer for the Milo Foundation Sanctuary: volunteer workcamps, internships, program for vet and vet tech professionals and students, school/youth programs, and virtual volunteering.

Volunteer Workcamps

Milo hosts volunteer workcamps, which involve improving the sanctuary infrastructure. Past projects include assembling insulated dog houses, cat house renovations, painting, jump proofing pens, building dog runs, and much, much more. Part of the weekend is also spent socializing the animals: playing with the cats, walking dogs, playing fetch with the dogs, and passing out treats and toys to the animals. Volunteers may camp on the grounds of the Milo Sanctuary or stay in a hotel in the nearby town of Willits (10 miles away). Volunteers must sign up in advance for these weekends, as limited space is available. Please see the events page for the schedule of volunteer workcamps.

Internships

An internship program is available for individuals willing to volunteer for at least one month. Previous experience with animals is necessary. A willingness to "rough" it in a tent cabin or trailer housing is a necessity. Interns must be 21 years or older. Please contact us for more information sanctuary@milofoundation.org.

Programs for Vets and Vet Techs (Professionals and Students):

Milo is setting up partnerships with educational institutions to provide hands-on experience to students in veterinary fields. In addition, vets and vet techs that would like to volunteer at the sanctuary are welcome. Preventive care, vaccinations, dentals and more are all needed on an ongoing basis. If you are a vet or vet tech that would like to volunteer your services, please email the sanctuary (sanctuary@milofoundation.org) to set up your visit. If you are an educational institution that would like to set up a partnership, please email us for more details.

Youth programs

One goal of Milo's public education efforts is to work with youth to both overcome stigmas of deep-rooted mistreatment and fear of animals as well as to instill the seeds of possibility of a new paradigm of appreciation of the our four-legged friends. If you are a teacher or educator that would like to bring a group of students/youth to the sanctuary for a visit, please contact us for more information. Milo can accommodate groups for day visits as well as overnight visits.

Virtual volunteers

If you cannot volunteer at the sanctuary in person, you may be interested in virtual volunteering. The sanctuary is always looking for help with grantwriting, contacting pet food companies and pet supply companies to request donations for our many furry friends, website design and maintenance, and other administrative tasks. Please contact the sanctuary (sanctuary@milofoundation.org) if you are interested in helping with any of these activities.
